Model of Human Occupation 2. The Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) was first developed in the 1980s by Gary Kielhofner. Since then, other occupational therapists have also been involved in its further development, revision and refinement of the concepts.

Model of Human Occupations (MOHO) The Model of Human Occupations (MOHO) is a model that describes how humans generate and modify their occupations in interaction with environment, which presents a dynamic open cycle system of human actions. The Model of Human Occupation is an occupational therapy practice model that addresses people's “motivations for occupations, the routine patterning of occupational behavior, nature of skilled performance and the influence of the environment on occupation” (Kielhofner & Barrett, 1998, p. 527). A model is a body of theory that explains some aspect of human behavior addressed in occupational therapy practice and that provides tools to apply that theory in practice. Another essential component of a model is the research that tests and improves the theory and practical tools.
